ABOUT
Born in 1966 in Saitama Prefecture, Aya Kusube draws in a style that deliberately mirrors children's drawings — charcoal pencil strokes defining outlines and shadow, often nearly monochrome with only a few key colours, filled in with hatching and dots.
She has been involved with Pokémon since 1998, starting with the Pokémon Tales books before moving to cards, and has authored and illustrated several of those books herself.
Animation runs in her family: her father founded Shin-Ei Animation, and her brother is a CG animator and lyricist there. She has also worked as a conceptual designer on the Doraemon franchise, and illustrates books, magazines and advertising for children.
